Obverse Design

The legend "EL CANAL" curves along the top. In the center is a large "5".
The legend "CENTS" curves along immediately under the "5".
The legend "RONCALLO Y CA" curves along the bottom.
All these legends use incuse lettering. Near the edge is a circle of dashes, also incuse.
The token has a smooth edge without a rim.

Population Count

Nine specimens are known to me in collector hands with a blank or undetermined reverse. Most
catalog photos are of the ctsp. reverse, as well as all recent sales. So the
blank reverse variety is less common. No recent sales.
